Un viaje a Paraguay para documentar la vida y obra del teatro de títeres itinerante creado por su padre en los años 70, lleva al cineasta a tomar contacto con los títeres y titiriteros de su infancia, iluminando con su cámara momentos clave del presente y pasado. Con una emotiva banda sonora interpretada por el guitarrista Sila Godoy, este film capta sutil y delicadamente el trabajo, la pasión y creatividad del artista titiritero, llevándonos detrás del retablo para (re)descubrir la magia intemporal del títere.

A trip to Paraguay to document the story of the traveling puppet theatre that his father started in the 1970s, leads the filmmaker on a nostalgic journey in which he reacquaints himself with the puppets of his childhood. Creatively using archival footage, photographs and insightful interviews, this film is an homage to an artist and his work--the filmmakers' father and an extended family of artists--who live and work in one of South America's poorest and lesser known countries. It celebrates the creativity and passion of artists and reminds us why the magic of puppetry is universal and timeless.

 

Le cinéaste, qui vit à Montréal, retourne au Paraguay avec pour
objectif de réaliser un documentaire sur le théâtre de marionnettes
itinérant fondé dans les années 70 par son père. Tout en
reconstruisant le passé pittoresque de Los títeres de Don Policarpo,
le cinéaste reprend contact avec les marionnettes et les
marionnettistes de son enfance, son père et sa famille élargie
d’artistes. Accompagné d’une émouvante bande  sonore mettant en
vedette le guitariste classique paraguayen Sila Godoy, ce film explore
la survie de l’art du théâtre de marionnettes dans l’un des moins
connus et des plus pauvres pays d’Amérique du Sud, tout en célébrant
le travail, la créativité et la passion des artistes, ainsi que la
magie et l’intemporalité de l’art de la marionnette.
