About
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Nicolás Gulino is the filmmaker behind Toposcope Films. He holds a B.A. from McGill University (Canada) and an M.Ed. from the University of Oregon (U.S.A.). His entrance into film probably began inadvertently in the mid-1990s when--following his passion for astronomy--he started working as a planetarium and observatory lecturer where he got to play with lights, projectors, and lenses as a tool to tell stories and engage audiences. With his background in anthropology, literature and education, he transitioned into filmmaking with the help of valuable training from established filmmakers Peter Wintonick, Garry Beitel, and Harold Crooks, among others, as well as through the Canadian Screen Training Centre, the Summer Institute of Film and Television, and the Montreal-based filmmakers' cooperative Main Film. He has also worked in the field of such documentaries as "En route: la tournée Musiques Rebelles Americas" and "Stolen Babies, Stolen Lives". Nicolas has taught at the International (IB) High School in Eugene, Oregon, at the University of Oregon's Migrant Education Program (HEP) and at McGill University. He now devotes his time to researching, writing and directing films on a variety of subjects and styles ranging from experimental to educational and artistic. In 2014 he was awarded a production grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Nicolas lives in Montreal with his wife and two children.
